Femtosecond Studies of Orientationai Anisotropy Decay of Benzopyranthione in the Excited 52 State in Hydrocarbons

چکیده

Reorientational dynamics of 4H-l-benzopyrane-4-thione (BPT) in the S2 state, in hydrocarbon solution, is studied from the anisotropy decay of fluorescence upconversion and pump-probe absorption transients with femtosecond time resolution. The anisotropy decay is found to be monoexponential in n-hexane, «-heptane, «-octane, «-decane, «-dodecane and cyclohexane. The dependence of the rotational time constant, r„,-, on the solvent viscosity is approximated by a linear function with a slope of 2.6 ± 1 ps/cP indicating slip conditions. The decay of orientationai anisotropy is observed for the first time for a molecule in the S2 state. 90 Femtosecond Studies of Anisotropy Decay of BPT in the Excited S2 State in Hydrocarbons 7.

Cytosine excited state dynamics studied by femtosecond fluorescence upconversion and transient absorption spectroscopy

We report a femtosecond spectroscopic study of the DNA base cytosine in aqueous solution at room temperature. Two different experimental techniques were used, fluorescence upconversion and transient absorption, providing complementary information on the excited state relaxation. While the fluorescence decay is clearly bi-exponential, with an ultrafast (0.2 ps) and a slower (1.3 ps) component, t...

Nonstationary rotational diffusion in room temperature liquids measured by femtosecond three-pulse transient anisotropy.

A femtosecond three-pulse chi((5)) polarization anisotropy experiment is used to examine the time dependence of the rotational diffusion of coumarin 153 in polar liquids. By probing the polarization anisotropy decay at various points during the molecule's excited state lifetime, a time-dependent diffusion coefficient is found in several solvents. This anomalous behavior is consistent with the r...

Femtosecond fluorescence dynamics and molecular interactions in a water-soluble nonlinear optical polymeric dye

Ž . The excited state dynamics of a water-soluble polymeric dye poly S-119 was investigated using femtosecond time-reŽ . solved fluorescence upconversion. Multi-exponential relaxation of fluorescence was observed for poly S-119 in picosecond and sub-picosecond time ranges. The azo-chromophore of the functionalized polymeric dye Sunset Yellow was used as a model compound for detailed investigati...

Excited-state decay of hydrocarbon radicals, investigated by femtosecond time-resolved photoionization: ethyl, propargyl, and benzyl.

The excited state decay of the hydrocarbon radicals ethyl, C(2)H(5); propargyl, C(3)H(3); and benzyl, C(7)H(7) was investigated by femtosecond time-resolved photoionization. Radicals were generated by flash pyrolysis of n-propyl nitrite, propargyl bromide, and toluene, respectively. It is shown that the 2 (2)A(') (3s) Rydberg state of ethyl excited at 250 nm decays with a time constant of 20 fs...

Ultrafast non-adiabatic dynamics of methyl substituted ethylenes: the π3s Rydberg state.

Excited state unimolecular reactions of some polyenes exhibit localization of their dynamics at a single ethylenic double bond. Here we present studies of the fundamental photophysical processes in the ethylene unit itself. Combined femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (TRPES) and ab initio quantum chemical calculations was applied to the study of excited state dynamics in cis-b...
